Taken out for the day

As some of you know I am disabled and at times I rely on my good friend Matt to take me out and to help with my F1 wheelchair...well today was one of those days, it was a foggy start to the day here in Ipswich...Matt loaded the car with all my camera kit & my tripod, he then took me to Felixstowe Ferry (the outlet for the river Deben) it was a very atmospheric morning as the fog was making the place feel very airy and we managed to get some shots off the stunning foggy landscape ...

Next stop was the Strand on the outskirts of Ipswich and the sun was breaking through and this sunlight lit the Orwell bridge up very nicely, by now most of the fog was lifting and after a short journey we stopped at a well know place that have been turned into many a good painting, that being Pin Mill,no paintbrushes today as Matt is not an artist, he is brilliant with a lens and a camera, yet again we took several photographs as the tide was out and we could access the concrete path that went out towards the River Orwell (this is submerged at high tide)...

The best thing about Pin Mill is that there is a good art/photographic gallery and they make a top notch cup of coffee and stunning home made flapjack, to round the day of we went to Shotley, this was once the home of the Royal Navy training base, alas the tall mast has seen better days and is gradually falling into disrepair...

So Matt & I finished the day by photographing the very large container ships that were moored at the Port of Felixstowe...as you can imagine I am now very tired and I ache in so many places even though I took things very easy and I used my crutches and wheelchair to get the photographs...who knows once I upload them from my camera to my computer I may attempt to replicate some as paintings or perhaps I will include some of the photographs in my blog latter...

Abstract Reflectioins

I'm sorry I have not added anything for a few days, I have not been at my best..

As you will see from the photograph I took several years ago titled "Abstract Reflections" I had an eye for some thing creative.

I will leave you all to guess what the photograph is as I'm sure some of you will get it straight away...

I hope to add a painting soon but I can't promise this as my health is up and down like a yo yo...

Frustrated (abstract)

                                                              Frustrated

A while back I was suffering very bad clinical depression and I had just had paperwork from the dreaded ATOS and this then sent my blood pressure through the roof, I was feeling so frustrated my good lady wife said "Go up into your digital darkroom/art room and just use your acrylic paints, brushes, knives and produce a piece of abstract work whilst being frustrated" low and behold my first abstract was created...

As a viewer to my blog do you think it shows "Frustration" please let me know by leaving a comment....

Digital Art

                                                       Fallow Deer Stags

I have heard a lot about digital art with iPods and other software being used so I was given some digital art software called DP Painter so I thought I would give it a go. This software can be used in with different medium and artist styles so to begin with I though I would choose one of my natural history photographs and choose Watercolour.

I then let my computer do all the work whilst having a mug of coffee and a biscuit. After fifteen minutes the final piece of work was produced.

Do I like it..ummm I'm not to sure, perhaps you could say how you feel by leaving me a comment.. As a photographer and a beginner working with acrylics I feel the finished item is neither a painting or a photograph....over to you for your comments

My first attempt at producing a finished painting

With remembrance day approaching I thought I would try my hand at producing a painting to commemorate the 100years anniversary of the first world war. This is my version of the "Unknown Soldier" for some reason there are some lines on the web image...perhaps it's because it's a low resolution image.

The painting is done on a 45cm x 35cm box canvas using acrylic's, as you can see I have a long way to go to catch up with my photography skills.

Image of the Year

This image won me image of the year at my photography club, it was taken whilst sitting in my wheelchair and my patience was well tested but like always if you take your time you will be rewarded...all I have to do now is become more proficient with paints and brushes.

I wish I could be as proficient with painting as I am with a camera, mind you I do have ten years experience with a camera and only a few months with brushes.
